HB 1876  PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE X, SECTION 2, OF THE
        HAWAII CONSTITUTION, TO CHANGE THE COMPOSITION OF THE
        BOARD OF EDUCATION                         EDU, JDC
        Proposes an amendment to article X, section 2, of the
        constitution of the State of Hawaii to include a
        representative from the Commander in Chief, United
        States Pacific Command to serve as a nonvoting member
        on the board of education. (Say, etc.)
        NOTE:  THIS BILL IS SIMILAR TO SB 2130, WHICH WAS
        HEARD ON 02/11/00.  

HB 149 HD2 PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE X, SECTION 2, OF THE
        HAWAII CONSTITUTION, TO CHANGE THE BOARD OF EDUCATION
        FROM AN ELECTED BOARD TO AN APPOINTED BOARD EDU, JDC
        Proposes a constitutional amendment to change the
        Board of Education from an elected board to an

HB 2566  RELATING TO THE HAWAII STATE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM

        Relating to literacy programs. (Say (BR))

HD 1873  RELATING TO EDUCATION                      EDU, WAM
HD2     Exempts federal and trust funds of the department of
        education from the requirements of the state budgetary
        allotment system under sections 37-31 to 37-39, Hawaii
        Revised Statutes. (Say, etc.)

HB 2388  RELATING TO EDUCATION                      EDU, JDC
HD2     Extends the Department of Education's zero tolerance
        policy to include the possession, sale, or use of
        dangerous weapons or switchblade knives, and the
        possession, sale, consumption or use of intoxicating
        liquor or illicit drugs during school. (Ito, etc.)
        NOTE:  THIS BILL IS SIMILAR TO SB 3038, WHICH WAS
        HEARD 02/28/00.

HB 2087  RELATING TO JUVENILES                      EDU, JDC
HD2     Allows limited accessibility to juvenile records to
        school officials and persons involved in the treatment
        and supervision of minors in the areas of child abuse
        and law enforcement.  Requires notification from a
        court to appropriate school officials when a minor has
        been adjudicated of committing a felony or
        misdemeanor. (Catalani)

HB 2285  MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE HAWAIIAN STUDIES
HD1     PROGRAM                                    EDU, WAM
        Appropriates funds for the Hawaiian studies program to
        fund one resource teacher for each public school
        district and a DOE supervisor for the resource
        teachers. (Kawakami, etc.)

HD 2096  MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR EDUCATION      EDU, WAM
HD1     Appropriates funds for 260 full-time equivalent
        permanent teacher positions in the department of
        education. (Ito, etc.)

HB 3002  RELATING TO PLAYGROUNDS IN SCHOOLS         EDU, WAM
HD2     Authorizes issuance of general obligation bonds to
        finance renovation of condemned playground equipment.

HB 2391  MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PARENT-COMMUNITY

        Appropriates funds for parent-community networking

HB 1875  RELATING TO EDUCATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY  EDU/LRE, WAM
HD1     Mandates that DOE implement the educational
        accountability system for Hawaii's public schools that
        focuses on student learning of the statewide standards
        and includes student accountability; school or
        collective professional accountability of rewards,
        assistance, and sanctions; individual professional
        accountability; and public accounting for other
        significant partners to the education process. (Say,

HB 1874  RELATING TO EDUCATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY  EDU/LRE, WAM
HD1     Establishes an interagency educational accountability
        working group to review agency administrative rules,
        policies, procedures, and practices and temporarily
        suspends such to support improved accountability for
        educational resources. (Say, etc.)

HB 2280  RELATING TO SCHOOL-TO-WORK             EDU/LRE, WAM
HD2     Amends powers of STW Executive Council;
        administratively places Council within the Department
        of Education; appropriates funds for Council. (Ito)
        NOTE:  THIS BILL IS SIMILAR TO SB 2469, WHICH WAS
        HEARD ON 02/16/00.

HB 2701  RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS             EDU/LRE, WAM
HD3     Establishes a renewable energy demonstration project
        in the department of education that involves the
        installation of photovoltaic systems and energy
        storage devices in one public school in each school
        district.  Appropriates funds.  Requires a progress
        and final report to the legislature. (Schatz/Morita)

HB 2500  RELATING TO TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT  ECD/EDU/LRE, WAM
HD2     Requires the governor's special advisor of high
        technology development (special advisor to develop a
        plan to organize the energy, resources, and technology
        division of the department of business, economic
        development, and tourism into the newly-established
        high technology development corporation.  Requires the
        special advisor to submit the plan, recommendations,
        and actions taken pursuant to this bill, to the
        legislature prior to the convening of the regular
        session of 2001. (Say, BR)
